DAYTON -- A 39-year-old Dayton woman was sentenced to 59 months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of distribution of a controlled substance (marijuana) to a person under the age of 18.

Columbia County Superior Court Judge William Acey handed down the sentence to Melinda Meske despite arguments by her attorney, Charles Thronson, for a drug offender sentencing alternative that would have cut her sentence in half.

Meske was arrested in May and charged with two counts of providing drugs to minors, and one count each of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

As part of a plea agreement with the Columbia County Prosecutor's office, Meske avoided facing all but one charge.

The victims in the case were an 11-year-old female and a 13-year-old male.
