Milton-Freewater Rotary Club generally features a program speaker at each of its meetings and the Aug. 10 gathering was no exception.
Milton-Freewater Chamber of Commerce President Mike Watkins and Cheryl York, executive director, discussed plans for the 30th Muddy Frogwater Country Classic Festival and Corn Roast which will be Aug. 20-22 in Yantis Park.
A new activity will be a Talent of the Valley competition, featuring a variety of performances by local talent, slated for 1:30 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday. An awards presentation will follow.
Crowd pleasers include the food concessions and meals prepared and served by local organizations.
Roy Dodd's Tribute to Elvis, Coyote Joe and Colorblind will perform in the band shell.
The Muddy Frog Square dancers will be in the Community Building; a Dart Tournament will be at the Elks Lodge; and a Softball Tournament will take place at the ball field. In a route change, the 9:30 a.m. parade Saturday will start at Valley Christian Church on North Main Street, continue on Main and end at the Dollar Store.
In addition, an Oktoberfest is planned for Oct. 23 in the Milton-Freewater Community building offering food, entertainment and an auction of items for the "Chairity" event sponsored by Rotary.
Chairs and items donated to the club are painted by local artists and sold at auction to raise proceeds in support of Rotary's Scholarship program for McLoughlin High School graduates.

On another note, I will be on vacation until after the Labor Day holiday.
Please continue to drop off or send items via e-mail or snail mail as I will attend to them upon my return.
I'm looking forward to time with siblings and other extended family while I'm away.
