Mrs. Balderas was born in Eagle Pass, Texas, on June 13, 1933, to Pablo and Maria Luisa Navejas Balderas. She lived there many years working as a laborer. She also worked in Crystal City, Texas, at the
Green Giant cannery. She worked as a head cook in a restaurant called Los Chilenos.
She left Eagle Pass in 1975 to pursue a better life. Then, she met her beloved husband, Refugio Sanchez. He preceded her in death after 32 years of marriage. She was heartbroken. They were always together.
Before her battle with arthritis, Mrs. Balderas enjoyed dancing, camping, walking, cooking for her family and gardening. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend to all who came to her home or
anyone she ran into. She loved having her grandkids visit her and played with them. Even when she was in extreme pain, she was always happy and would make the kids laugh by dancing to their music. She was a devoted Catholic and prayed every day. She always prayed for everyone, even people she didn't know. If someone asked for a prayer request, she was always willing to pray for them. She will be extremely missed!
She is survived by her children, Maria Coronado (Mike), Elva R. Garza, Maria Cavazos Wilks (Paul) of Walla Walla, Luciano Castorena of Walla Walla and Fidencio Castorena (Cindy) of Hayward, Wis.; two sisters, Maria De La Rosa of Walla Walla and Carmen Alcazar (Jorge) of Pasco; five brothers, Pablo Balderas (Frances), John Balderas (Rene), Jose Balderas of Walla Walla, Francisco Balderas (Eva) of San Angelo, Texas, and Jesus Balderas (Concha) of Houston, Texas. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and her aunt, Maria De La Rosa. She was preceded in death by her beloved children, Dora Elia Castorena and Martin Castorena; her beloved husband, Refugio Sanchez; her parents, Pablo and Maria Luisa Balderas; three sisters, Bisenta Garcia, Cresencia Martinez and Felipa Flores; one brother, Luis Balderas; and her beloved son-in-law, Ramon V. Cavazos.
