Students win scholarships from barrel racing group

Two local college students have received the first scholarships presented by the Valley Girls Barrel Racing Association in what is to become an annual award. To qualify for the scholarships, students must be members of the association, or their parents or grandparents must be members.

Touchet High School graduate Courtney Frazier was awarded a $250 scholarship to continue her studies at Walla Walla Community College. Frazier is a student in the college's nursing program. She is the daughter of Troy and Maryanne Frazier of Touchet. Courtney has been an active member of the Valley Girls Barrel Racing Association for many years and both her mother and grandmother, Judy Frazier, are also members, according to a news release.

The second scholarship was awarded to Taylor Hof, a recent graduate of Walla Walla High School. Taylor plans to pursue a degree in diesel technology at the community college, according to the release. He is the son of Bill and Andrea Hof of Walla Walla. Andrea is a former association member and Taylor's grandmother, Charmaine Beck, is and has been a member of VGBRA since its inception is 1961.
