WALLA WALLA -- A man pleaded guilty Monday afternoon in connection with the discovery of child pornography in June.

Adam C. Hopkins, 35, of 758 Edith Ave., entered guilty pleas in Superior Court to four counts of second-degree dealing in depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Hopkins faces the possibility of five years in prison when he's sentenced later. But the prosecution is recommending Judge Donald W. Schacht opt for a sentencing alternative if experts determine Hopkins is amenable to sex-offender treatment. The alternative would reduce the amount of time Hopkins is incarcerated and require him to undergo treatment.

In pleading guilty Monday, Hopkins didn't admit guilt, but acknowledged the prosecution has evidence that could convict him.

Police said a family member attending a gathering at Hopkins' home June 20 discovered several photos of child pornography -- including pictures of girls younger than 3 years old -- stored on a media card from Hopkins' cell phone. Hopkins had given the card to the female relative to use in her phone.

She was surprised and showed other family members, who "saw several images of nude young females, to include one of a nude female sitting on the lap of an adult nude male," according to a police report filed in court.

The relatives left with the media card and turned it over to police.

Police served a search warrant at Hopkins' residence three days later, seized his cell phone and laptop computer, and in his bedroom discovered a white envelope containing "magazine cut outs and pictures of dozens of infants and small children, all nude," the police report says.

Hopkins was arrested and booked into the County Jail.
