DAYTON -- A sudden, unforeseen 20 inches of snow Wednesday and Thursday has led to a quicker-than-projected opening of Ski Bluewood this morning.
Bluewood is now slated to open at 8:30 a.m. today.
Thursday's snow fall knocked the mountain's base from 20 inches, which was down significantly from the previous week, up to nearly 40 inches by Thursday night, allowing the opening that was music to local skiers' ears, or in this case, poles.
Spout Springs near Tollgate had earlier nailed down its opening day for Dec. 11, but 10 new inches on the mountain Thursday may also bump that date up.
What won't change is the fact that the resort is using a new promotion to help the hungry every Friday.
"On Fridays we are doing a deal this year where we are partnering with the food bank." said Spout Springs hill manager Richard Murray of the resort. "If you buy one swing pass and bring three canned food items, you will get one swing pass free. This is replacing the Shell Ski for Free."
