Norma Mae Williams, who lived almost all of her nearly 91 years in the Walla Walla area, died Tuesday at Regency At The Park in College Place following a short illness.
Norma was born Jan. 7, 1920, in Baton Rouge, La., to Clara Grey Hopper and Nolan Hopper. She moved with her family to Walla Walla in 1922 and graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1938. She married
Marvin Williams of Walla Walla later that year. The couple lived most of their lives on Locher Road, west of College Place, where Mr. Williams farmed. They moved to Park Plaza in College Place in 2002.
Mr. Williams died in 2005, not long after the couple celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.
They had three children, who survive them: Marvin Byrl Williams (and his wife, Frances) of Pleasanton, Calif., Ilene Whitemore (and her husband, Tom) of Dayton, Nev., and Kathy Williams (and her husband, Alex MacLeod) of Shaw Island, Wash. She is also survived by a brother, Bill Hopper, of Dickson, Tenn.; and a sister, Margaret Fairchild, of Denver; two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Norma was a longtime member of College Place Presbyterian Church and the Walla Walla Elks Lodge B.P.O.E 287. She also worked for Montgomery Ward, the Catherine Street Clinic and Baker Boyer Bank.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Park Plaza, 1400 Dalles Military Road. The Rev. Robin Peterson of College Place Presbyterian Church will officiate. Interment will be at
Mt. View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Walla Walla Community Hospice or the Blue Mountain Humane Society through Herring Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla.
