Virgil C. Kilmer


College Place resident, Virgil C. Kilmer, 93,
died November 26, 2010, at his home.
The memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. on
Tuesday, December 7, 2010, followed by a
reception at Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt,
1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, Washington. Pastor W. Duane
Geyer of Adams Community Church will officiate. Memorial contributions
may be made to the Walla Walla Community Hospice or a
charity of donor's choice through the funeral home.

Virgil was born October 17, 1917 with a twin sister, Virgie, in Madison
County, Nebraska to Joseph and Birdie (Copenhaver) Kilmer. He
attended Madison Elementary and High School. In 1948, he and
Lillian Patricia Hayes married in Portland, Oregon. They later divorced.
In 1965 he married Mary Louise Laird in Norfolk, Nebraska.
She passed away April 7, 2009.

Virgil has lived in the Walla Walla valley since 1971 moving here from
Port Angeles, Washington. He was a heavy equipment operator retiring
in 1996. His main enjoyment in life was farming, raising animals
and his dog, Charlie. He enjoyed building roads and bridges,
skeet shooting, watching football and both hunting and fishing. He
liked listening to Louie L'Amour and also cowboy stories and jokes.
Virgil served in the Army in Santa Anita, California as an MP. He was
a past member of the Walla Walla Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #287.

Survivors include a daughter, Roberta Sue Kilmer of College Place;
two sons, Charles Jay (Rosalie) Kilmer of Walla Walla and William Carl
(Chris) Kilmer of Omaha, Nebraska, eight grandchildren, nine great
grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, three sisters, two brothers
and one nephew.
