DAYTON - Dayton's boys basketball team scored a win in its season opener, dropping Pomeroy 47-34 here Friday night.

"It wasn't where we want to be offensively, but we did a really good job on the defensive end," said Dayton head coach Roy Ramirez. "We had some good spurts, and we played some lockdown defense."

The Bulldogs held a 15-point lead at intermission thanks to its staunch defense.

"Our effort was there," Ramirez said. "Defensively, we have to be proud of the effort. Hopefully, as the season moves on we'll be able to match that execution offensively."

Dayton next gets to show its offensive chops on Tuesday against Riverview.

Pomeroy is off until Friday when the Pirates head to Colton.
