MISSION, Ore. - Nixyaawii jumped out to a 22-8 lead after the first quarter, and finished third at its own tournament with a 77-33 victory over Long Creek Saturday.

"We ran a lot of man-to-man and had a lot of steals (26)," Golden Eagles coach Aaron Noisey said. "Josh Barkley had eight of those steals. We were able to use our quickness to steal the ball, and that helped our offense get going."

Nixyaawii held a 40-18 halftime lead, and outscored Long Creek 24-9 in the third stanza to put the game out of reach.

"In the fourth quarter I sat three of my starters and got younger kids in for some game situations," Noisey said.

The Golden Eagles had 28 assists in the game, while turning the ball over 12 times.

"I like what I saw, that's a good ratio," Noisey said of the assists-turnovers numbers.

Joe Crawford led the Golden Eagles with 21 points, while Larry Spino had 14, Ajah Ganuelas and Barkley 12, and Ernest Morningowl 11.

"We were hoping to go 2-0 and win our tournament," Noisey said. "But it was nice to get a win for the community.

"I was just real proud of the kids, they worked hard. We'll build on that and go to Joseph Tuesday."
