HELIX - Helix's boys basketball team dropped its home opener to Elgin, 54-40, Friday.

The Grizzlies' Riley Sederburg took game scoring honors with 17 points. Garrett Rogers was also in double figures for Helix with 10 points.

"We had trouble with our offense," said Helix head coach Brooke Garton. "Defensively, we did some good things, but we just weren't executing our offensive plan totally."

The visitors led by three points, 10-7, after one quarter and broke the game open in the second when the Huskies outscored the Grizzlies 19-8 to mount a 29-15 halftime lead.

Helix cut the gap to 40-31 after three periods but Elgin pulled away again in the fourth.

"It's our first game, and it wasn't what we wanted," Garton said. "There were good things that we can take away from this game, but more than anything we know that we have a lot to focus on as far as improvement."

Helix entertained Imbler Saturday night.
