PILOT ROCK, Ore. - Mac-Hi's offense was stifled in three-of-four quarters here Friday night as Pilot Rock overwhelmed the Pioneers 66-20 in a season-opening girls basketball game.

The Rockets jumped to a 16-4 lead after one quarter and built their advantage to 32-6 at halftime. The Pioneers put up 11 points in the third quarter but still lost ground as the home team expanded its lead to 48-17, then completed the rout by outpointing Mac-Hi 18-3 over the final eight minutes.

"Rebounds were a big part of the game," first-year Mac-Hi coach Casey Richards said. "They were the bigger team and we got beat offensively and defensively in rebounding.

"And experience was another factor," she added. "They had all seniors starters and we started one freshman and had two more who came off the bench. We just had two seniors in our starting lineup."

Eloisa Meza and Caitlin Erm sank two 3-pointers each and tallied six points apiece to lead Mac-Hi offensively. Makia Carlson and Avery Wells added four points each to round out the Pioneers' scoring.

All 12 Rocket players contributed points.

"We need to spend some time in practice blocking out on our rebounding," Richards said. "And we'll be putting in a new offense. We just need to stay patient, see how plays work and settle in and run our offense."

Mac-Hi travels to DeSales Tuesday for another non-league game.
