ATHENA -- One person suffered minor injuries after a school bus and car crashed in Athena on Wednesday night.

Oregon State Police reported the crash occurred about 8:24 p.m. at Highway 11 and Pambrun Road. Police said a car driven by Sylvia K. Griffen, 57, Dayton, was on Pambrun Road and failed to stop at a stop sign. As Griffen's car crossed through the intersection with Highway 11, it was struck in the right side by a southbound Baker City School District bus. After the impact, the car came to rest off the highway in a nearby field.

Griffen received minor injuries but refused medical transport, police said. A dog riding in her car died from injuries sustained in the crash.

No students or adult occupants in the bus were injured. Nearly half of the students were picked up by parents and the remaining occupants were picked up by a replacement bus to return home.

An investigation into the accident was continuing, police said today.
