COVE, Ore. - Larry Spino scored 24 points to lead the Nixyaawii Golden Eagles boys past the Cove Leopards 55-53 here Friday night in the first round of the Cove Booster Club tournament.

"It was a back and forth game," Nixyaawii coach Aaron Noisey said, "Neither team got up by more than four points.

"Cove was a lot bigger team than us. We are smaller and quicker. We pressed all game long and wore them down by the third and fourth quarters."

Josh Barkley dropped in 17 points and fouled out in the contest.

Another big scorer for the Golden Eagles was Joe Crawford with 13 points. Crawford also contributed six steals and four rebounds.

As a team, Nixyaawii had 12 steals.

The Golden Eagles improved to 2-2 on the season going into Saturday's tournament championship game against Imbler.

"We should keep getting better," Noisey said, "This is the first four games that these starters have all played together. We should get better and surprise some people once (Big Sky Conference) starts."
