ROSALIA - In a game that looked like an early season game - the teams combined for 65 turnovers - the Rosalia Spartans got 11 points from Tayler Nelson and opened the Southeast 1B District girls basketball season with a 43-14 win over Touchet.

The Indians had trouble getting the lid off the basket as Touchet connected on only 6-of-32 attempts from the field.

"It was a better game than the score indicates," Indians coach Mike Giusti said. "We missed a ton of inside shots."

Even though the Indians turned the ball over 36 times, they also forced 29 Spartan turnovers.

"We played well defensively," Giusti said. "We played hard and forced a lot of turnovers. We had 36, but we only gave up 43 points. If we continue to work that hard on defense, it (success) will come."

Josie Christopher led the Indians with eight points. Kristen Warner scored four and Carley Frazier rounded out the Indian scoring with a deuce.
