UMATILLA - The Weston-McEwen TigerScots girls basketball team bested the Walla Walla Valley Academy Knights here Friday, 28-24, in the Columbia River Clash tournament.
Tiffany Cain led W-M with 23 rebounds. She also contributed four assists and two points.
"A lot of the time with rebounds, she was just in the right place at the right time," W-M coach Amber Doremus said of Cain.
Team high-scorers for W-M were Morgan Entze with nine points and Shaelin Youncs with six.
Emily Fields for WWVA scored 10 points in the first half and WWVA held a 15-14 lead at the break. After some halftime adjustments on defense, Fields was held scoreless.
"We made sure to guard Emily closer in the second half, and to get a hand up in her face on every shot," Doremus said.
Another adjustment, according to Doremus, was that they needed to limit the rebounding of the Knights' Jessica Hutton, who grabbed eight first-half rebounds. Hutton was limited to five after the intermssion.
