POMEROY - A trip to Pomeroy sent Dayton home with a 58-34 loss to their former league rivals Tuesday.

Pomeroy opened early with a 14-9 lead in the first quarter, then ran it up to 32-15 to close the half.

The Bulldogs, suffering from injuries, couldn't recover from the hole as Pomeroy moved to 4-1 overall with the nonconference win.

The Pirates are playing the Southeast 1B this season, after moving down from the SE 2B.

"It was a good game for us," said Pomeroy head coach Nettie Severs. "Both teams played hard, and Dayton's pretty short-handed with injuries, so it gave us a chance to have our younger kids move up and play a couple of quarters on varsity."

Jessica Tate led the Bulldogs with 10 points, including one

outside the arc. Melissa

Bartlow had 14 for the Pirates, while HayLee Koller sank

Pomeroy's only 3.

McKayla Bickelhaupt had four of Dayton's 35 rebounds, while HayLee Koller had six of Pomeroy's 18.

The Pirates host Lacrosse-Washtucna Friday in a league match.

"We've got to come out and play every game," Severs said. "We've got to be ready to beat everyone."

Dayton plays at Waitsburg-Prescott in its Southeast 2B league opener Friday. The Bulldogs are 0-4 in preseason play.
