WAITSBURG - Waitsburg-Prescott's girls basketball team turned a defensive struggle into a blowout in the third quarter against Weston-McEwen at home Tuesday, picking up a 45-19 win in a tuneup before a rivalry clash this weekend.

Krystal Harris led the way for W-P with 13 points, including a pair of shots from beyond the arc that helped spark a 24-point third quarter that proved to be the deciding factor in the contest.

"That third quarter killed us," said W-P head coach Amber Doremus. "We accomplshed a lot of our main goals on defense, but coming out of the half, they just had more energy than us."

A main goal for W-M was maintaining control of interior presence Genesis Pearson, which the team accomplished, holding the post player to just three points, but W-P found other ways to score.

"I was really proud of how our post players performed," Doremus said. "We were able to hold them down for a while, but they rose up, and we couldn't handle their second half push."

W-P is next scheduled to take on Dayton at home Friday, while the TigerScots head to Union on the same night.

"We'll work on fine tuning our defense and our half court offense before Friday," Doremus said. "If we can shoot the ball better, we'll be in it on Friday."
