UNION - Union gave Weston-McEwen a wakeup call in the Blue Mountain Conference boys basketball opener for both teams Friday night.

Union put 20 points on the board and trailed the TigerScots 23-20 after one quarter.

The TigerScots found their defensive shoes and went on to post a 72-43 win.

"We were only giving up 44 (points) a game," TigerScot coach Brian Pickard said. "We got off to a terrible start and didn't play defense at all. Ron Terjeson and Matt McGill came off the bench and gave us a little energy on defense in the second quarter. We held them under double digits (in each quarter) the rest of the way."

Miles Thul did his part in the first period as he scored 12 of his game-high 25 in the first quarter, and grabbed four of his eight steals to hold the tide until he got help in the second period.

The TigerScots put this one away after intermission with a 22-8 third-quarter run and went to the fourth up 59-34.

Dallas Reich finished with 19 points and seven rebounds for the TigerScots. Tyler Babb also grabbed seven boards and was the third TigerScot to hit double digits as Babb tallied 13 points.

W-M hosted Elgin in a BMC match Saturday.
