ASOTIN - Dayton's girls basketball team's quest for its first win of the year will have to wait until after the holidays as the Bulldogs fell 59-46 to Asotin on the road Saturday.

The Bulldogs hung tough with Asotin for all four quarters, but Dayton couldn't find a way to cut into Asotin's steadily expanding lead.

"The scoreboard says we lost by 13, but it didn't feel that way," said Dayton head coach Scott Hudson. "We were right there going into the fourth quarter, and if a couple of more plays had gone our way then it would have been a different story. We played a pretty complete game, but we ran into a tough team."

Zara Reynolds led Asotin with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and the Bulldogs (0-6) were plagued by 35 turnovers.

"Obviously, the turnovers hurt us," Hudson said. "That was the big issue tonight, but we are clearly improving."

Nicole Lambert paced Dayton with 13 points, while McKayla Bickelhaupt handed out four assists.

Dayton will rest over the holiday break before next taking the floor in an alumni exhibition game on Jan. 2.

"Hopefully, we'll have a little time to heal up, and then we can get back after it," Hudson said. "I'm pleased with the direction that we're headed in."
