COLLEGE PLACE - Waitsburg-Prescott picked up a Southeast 2B league win at Walla Walla Valley Academy Saturday night, topping the Knights 68-31.
Although WWVA kept it close, trailing W-P 35-28 at the half, W-P's defense shut the Knights down in the second.
"In the second half they came out with more intensity and defensively clamped down on us," said WWVA coach Monty Buell. "We didn't handle it very well, obviously."
WWVA's leading scorer, Emily Field, fouled out in the third. She posted all 16 of her points in the first half.
Losing Field also dropped the WWVA rotation to six players.
"They just played great defense and we didn't get open looks," Buell said. "We had trouble getting the ball down the court and just had trouble handling it.
"We've obviously got things we've got to work on. Turnovers were probably the biggest problem we had in the second half. They stepped up the defensive pressure."
WWVA is 0-2 in league and 1-6 overall. They travel to Dayton Jan. 6.
W-P is 3-0 in league. They play Dec. 29-30 in the Helix Holiday Tournament.
