Breakfast – it's what's for dinner at Whoopemup

The Whoopemup Hollow Caf is on winter holiday, but that's not stopping operators from making plans for the new year.

The Waitsburg restaurant known for its Southern comfort food at 120 Main St. has been closed since Dec. 6. Owners are preparing to open for New Year's Eve -- a first for the restaurant. New Orleans-inspired specials, such as oysters Rockefeller, crawfish cakes and seafood etouffee will be on the menu.

That event will be followed New Year's Day with a "Breakfast for Dinner Pajama Party." The restaurant will serve its Hangtown Fry Omelette (oyster and bacon), huevos rancheros and possible biscuits and gravy. In another business development for Whoopemup, gift certificates are available through the operation's secure web store, and soon official Whoopemup T-shirts and limited-edition coffee mugs -- hand-thrown, numbered and signed by artist Jamil Scherif -- are expected to be available.

The Children's Museum of Walla Walla is having a holiday wine sale to raise funds for the interactive, educational operation.

The museum, 77 Wainwright Drive, has a limited supply of Reininger Winery's 2006 Helix Pomatia left from the museum's annual fundraiser.

The magnum bottle ¬?-- a large-format bottle equivalent to two regular sized bottles -- includes a custom label designed by local artist Diana Schmidt. The magnums are priced at $50, and all proceeds go to the Children's Museum.

The museum operates Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information call 526-7259.
