Holiday season is time to count blessings

The holiday season is the time for those of us with plenty - jobs, health, family - to count our blessings and reflect in gratitude.

As chairs of this year's United Way campaign we would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to the many individuals and business donors who have already demonstrated their gratitude by giving to those in our community who find themselves in less fortunate circumstances. Through your generosity we have already raised nearly $275,000 of our $420,000 goal.

For those of you who are still considering your yearend charitable contributions, we ask that you allow for a gift to United Way.

United Way of Walla Walla County helps spearhead the charitable giving to our community's health and human service agencies to ensure that our friends and neighbors receive the help they need.

Your dollars stay right here in your community to ensure the maximum return on your investment. United Way demands accountability from its partner agencies to ensure the highest standards and effective uses of contributions.

A citizen committee determines fund allocations and expects agencies to be effective, accountable, and responsive.

One of the greatest investments you can make is an investment in people and their potential. Your gift, combined with that of others, multiplies the power to reach more people and impact the most critical needs in our community.

Including:

• Helping kids grow to be healthy, happy, adults through after-school programs and character building activities.

• Making food, shelter and utility assistance available to those most at risk.

• Giving hope and help to families suffering from illness or abuse.

• And providing funds for counseling, mentoring and assisting a broad cross-section of our greater community.

If you have already given this year, please accept our heartfelt gratitude. If not, we ask that you seriously consider doing so. Your gift to United Way will help extend the giving season throughout the year to come.

Contributions can be made securely online at www.unitedwayww.org or mailed to United Way of Walla Walla County, PO Box 1134, Walla Walla, WA 99362.

Happy Holidays to all.
