Walla Walla Elks Lodge 287 will host a New Year's Eve celebration open to the community on Friday at 351 E. Rose St.

The two New Year's parties in one offers music by DJ Randy on the main stage and Burle Craveb on the New York New Year's stage.

The $10 tickets include both parties, a champagne toast, breakfast after midnight, party favors and giveaways throughout the evening.

Dinner and party tickets are $30 with prime rib or chicken meals by A Wing and A Prayer BBQ.

There will be several drink specials. As it's an open house, the public is encouraged to attend. Cost at the door without advance tickets is $13 for the party or $35 for the party and dinner. For more details, contact the Lodge at 509-525-2870.

Three Walla Walla students attending Oregon State University in Corvallis made the scholastic honor roll for fall term with a 3.5 or better: Drew M. Stull, senior, athletic training; Sheila J. Thurber, senior, biology; Christy L. Turner, senior, applied visual arts.

Wilma McBain, Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary District 10 president and VAVS representative was on hand to welcom visiting dignitaries. Jerry Herker, Washington state VFW commander, Diane Small, state Ladies VFW Auxiliary president, and Marjorie Wright, state Ladies Auxiliary Hospital chairwoman, and Judy Leu visited town on Dec. 10.

They came to see and inspect the progress of the Jonathan M. Wainright Memorial Veterans Affairs Medical Center future building program, Wilma said. Jerry and Diane presented a check to Dave Beebe with the Department of Veterans Affairs Veteran Program manager, for veterans' rehabilitation needs.

Each month the state VFW and Ladies Auxiliary send funds to their State VAVS representatives to buy clothing, shoes and other items needed by veterans who stop by the clothing/crafts room.

Phil Rivera, VFW Post 992 commander, and wife Paulette Rivera, VFW Post 992 Ladies Auxiliary president, also attended the gathering at the hospital, along with VAVS Deputies Julia Borgers and Barbara McDonald; College Place Post 466 Commander Mike Hays and wife Kathy Hays, Ladies Auxiliary president.

The VFW Post 2351 members in Pomeroy hosted a District 10 luncheon and meeting there on Dec. 11. Jerry, Judy, Diane and VFW and Auxiliary members from Clarkston VFW Post 1443 and Post 992 also attended.
