Gary D. Moss, Milton-Freewater, passed away Dec. 22, 2010, at his home at the age of 71 years. There will be a family gathering at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shrine Hospital through the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main St., Milton-Freewater, OR 97862.

Mr. Moss was born June 15, 1939 in Umapine, the son of Charles L. and Florence E. Dixon Moss. He was the oldest of 10 children and had a large part and shared in helping raise the large family. He grew up and attended local schools, graduating from McLoughlin Union High School. He married Susan Bock in Soquel, Calif. He later moved his family to Milton-Freewater. The couple were later divorced. Mr. Moss owned and operated Moss Farms in Milton-Freewater, raising asparagus and he was a devoted orchardist. He trucked his produce to Montana and the Dakotas. While farming, Mr. Moss drove school bus for the Ferndale School District. He loved visiting with staff and the children riding the bus. He always had a good story to tell and enjoyed having a cup of coffee with friends. He enjoyed gardening; raising beautiful red geraniums, fly fishing, Alaska fishing trips, vacations to Hawaii, sport fishing in Mexico, snowmobiling and elk hunting in the Blue Mountains with California guests, keeping the sourdough starter under his pillow so he could fry pancakes the next day. He was a member of Milton Lodge #96 A.F.A.M. and the Milton-Freewater Shrine Club.

He is survived by two sons, Jeff Moss of Bend, Ore., Cory Moss of Kent, Wash.; two brothers, Ken Moss of Walla Walla, Howard Moss of Wenatchee; four sisters, Judy Parent of Milton-Freewater, Nancy Slack of Hermiston, Lisa Sweeney and Jan Hammon both of Walla Walla; two granddaughters, Samantha Moss of Waitsburg, Ella Moss of Bend, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Moss was preceded in death by a son, Brin Moss; and three brothers, Bob, Dave and Rich Moss.
