HELIX - The Helix girls basketball team got off to a good start in its Christmas tournament,, rallying in the second half to score a 34-31 win over Powder Valley in first-round play.

Powder Valley took a five-point lead into the intermission, but a strong second half from Chyanne Hack, who finished with 17 points - including 10 in the final 16 minutes - led the Grizzlies to the win.

"Chyanne is a great post presence," said Helix head coach Dean Fouquette. "She was really tough for them to handle in the second half, and she played a really strong game."

The final Helix score came when Krystal Sundin sank a free throw with 14 seconds remaining to stretch a two-point lead to three, which proved to be the final spread.

"It was a really evenly matched game," Fouquette said. "It was good to see that we were able to come back and win a close game like this in our home tournament."

Helix (4-6) was slated to play Waitsburg-Prescott in the tournament today, but the rest of the Classic was canceled due to the weather.
