POMEROY - Pomeroy's wrestling team Tuesday hosted a dual meet against a trio of schools in an exhibition before today's Pomeroy Christmas Classic.

Eight members of the Pomeroy team took to the mat, scoring six wins over representatives from Pateros, Heppner and Colfax.

"It was a good chance for us to get ready for a big day here," said Pomeroy head coach Derek Shawley. "It would have been nice to get a couple more of our guys a chance to wrestle, but there just weren't enough wresters to get everyone a match in their weight class."

Tory Knebel (160 pounds) and Mike Wymore (215) both scored first-round pins to lead Pomeroy, which figures to be in contention at several weight classes today.

Knebel is looking for his third straight championship at the event.

"Knebel has really proven himself to be a leader on our team and one of the best wrestlers around," Shawley said. "Today is one of the highlights of our year so we are ready for it."
