Walla Walla County planning agency to close Thursday

The Community Development Department is being dissolved ahead of the opening of a city-county joint agency.

WALLA WALLA -- The Walla Walla County Community Development Department will close its doors Thursday.

Tom Glover, department director, said the agency will be joining with the city of Walla Walla Development Department to establish a new joint agency.

The Walla Walla Joint Community Development Agency will open for business Jan. 10. Inspections will be performed on the week starting Jan. 3 on a limited basis.

The new agency will be located at the city of Walla Walla Service Center, 55 Moore St. Inspection requests can be made by calling 524-2632.

The joint agency was formed after the city and county agreed late this year to merge their planning and development operations. The new agency will be an independent entity governed by a three- member board of directors.

Glover has been named as the joint agency's executive director and his appointment was approved by the City Council and county commissioners earlier this month.
