WENATCHEE - The Wa-Hi girls basketball team split a pair of games at the Wenatchee Christmas Classic, winning a thriller over Kentridge, 48-42, on Tuesday before losing to undefeated South Kitsap, 53-46, on Wednesday.

Battling Kentridge in their opener, the Blue Devils went down to the wire, trailing 40-37 with the regulation clock rolling down when Maddie Jacobson managed to find an open look from beyond the arc, which she drained as time expired for a tie, pushing the game into overtime.

"It was pretty exciting," said Wa-Hi head coach Jill Meliah. "She got the shot up, and when she knocked it down it really got us going, and I think we played the best we have played all year in the overtime period."

The Blue Devil defense shut down the Kentridge offense in the extra frame to score the 48-42 win behind a dozen points from Torri Crawford and 11 from Gabby Anderson.

"Our posts were great in both games," Meliah said. "I really can't say enough about how well Gabby and Torri played."

Wa-Hi faced perennial powerhouse South Kitsap Wedensday, and the Blue Devils (4-6) actually took a two-point lead into the break.

"We were still a little inconsistent, and we are still working on figuring out what rotation is going to work for us," said Meliah. "But to play a game like that against a team that seems like they're at state every year is definitely something we can build upon. It's an extremely promising performance for us."

The Blue Devils will have some time work on finding the correct rotations over the next week, as they don't take the floor again until Jan. 8 at Davis.
