DAYTON - Dayton's girls basketball team closed out the 2010 portion of its season with a hard-fought defeat in the finals of its holiday tournament, falling 46-36 at the hands of Kiona Benton Thursday.

The Bulldogs (1-7) took an 18-15 lead into the intermission, but Ki-Be took over in the third.

"This was one of our best performances of the year," said Dayton head coach Scott Hudson. "We played really well in the first half, but we hit a wall in the third quarter. Still, we're finally at full strength, and we're improving with every game."

Courtney Mings led Dayton with 12 points, but a 12-for-31 night at the free throw line plagued the Bulldogs.

"We need to shoot better, especially our free throws," Hudson said. "Still, our girls have a lot to be proud of. We have played a lot better than our record reflects."
