WALLA WALLA -- A report of a fight early this morning in the Eastgate area resulted in a vehicle fleeing the scene and attempting to crash head-on into a responding Walla Walla police patrol car, officials said.
Police were notified at 1:11 a.m. of a large party and people fighting in the 200 block of White Street. Officers and a county sheriff's deputy responded and saw a green 1996 GMC SUV with several occupants fleeing the area.
One officer was forced to take evasive action to avoid a collision with the fleeing SUV, according to police spokesman Tim Bennett. A short pursuit continued north on White across Isaacs Avenue until the vehicle crashed into the barrier at the north dead end of the street.
Three subjects ran from the vehicle and two others were taken out at gunpoint. A sixth subject was found inside the vehicle. They were questioned and released, Bennett said.
A baggie containing a misdemeanor amount of marijuana reportedly was located in the vehicle.
A man identified as the driver ran from the scene and is being sought.
Police did not believe this morning that the fight was gang-related. No injuries were reported.
