Duncan leads Irish girls' rally past Liberty Christian, 53-50

RICHLAND — A barrage of fourth-quarter 3-pointers helped DeSales overcome a 12-point deficit and knock off Liberty Christian 53-50 in a Southeast B South girls basketball game here Tuesday.

The win gives DeSales a 6-2 record in the South and 13-4 record overall.

Liberty Christian drops to 9-1 in the South with the loss, and 12-7 overall.

DeSales’ Caitlin Duncan led all scorers with a double-double, 27 points and 13 rebounds.

Erin Giusti added 10 points for DeSales.

Anna Croskrey and Kelsey Harding scored 16 and 14 points, respectively, for the Patriots. Hannah Berges scored 13 points.

DeSales took a 22-20 first-quarter lead, but LC tied the score at 30-30 by the intermission.

The Patriots rolled to a 17-5 third-period advantage and a 47-35 lead entering the final eight minutes.

Annie Higgins opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the gap to 47-41.

As the final minutes ticked away Duncan and Claire Konen canned 3-pointers.

Duncan popped a another 3-pointer for a 52-49 lead with 1:50 on the clock, and the Irish held on for the win.

"We played well," DeSales coach Tim Duncan said. "They beat us by 22 points on our own court earlier in the season.

"Our kids had pointed toward this game ever since then," he said. "And we started strong and finished strong. We held them to three points in the fourth quarter."

DeSales returns to the court at Tekoa-Oakesdale on Saturday at 5 p.m.
