MILTON-FREEWATER -- The School District has joined the social networking world, and recently launched pages on Facebook and Twitter.

The launch of the sites is viewed as another way to communicate with staff, parents and the community.

Anyone can become a "fan" of the Milton-Freewater School District on Facebook.com and "follow" the District on Twitter.com by clicking on the links on the District's Web site at www.miltfree.k12.or.us.

On Facebook, the district is listed as "Milton-Freewater Unified School District #7" and through Twitter it is "MFSchools."

"Social media, including Facebook and Twitter, is fast becoming an essential tool of communication in school districts," Superintendent Marilyn McBride said in a statement.

"Our use of social media to communicate with staff, parents and community members won't replace other forms of communication; it will simply serve as another tool."

The Facebook and Twitter pages are expected to help the district reach a broader demographic.

The district will also continue to update its Web site, send letters home, produce newsletters and use other common means of communication.

The Twitter and Facebook updates should include timely and up-to-date information on the latest news, school closure or delay information, event reminders and more.
