RICHLAND — Too many turnovers and too many injured or ill players hurt DeSales in a 56-24 Southeast B South boys basketball loss to Liberty Christian here on Tuesday.

The loss leaves the Irish with a 1-7 record in the South and a 3-14 record on the season.

The Patriots took a 16-2 lead after the first quarter and never trailed.

Sean Williams led the Irish with seven points.

Jake Siefken led Liberty Christian with 15 points. Mike Groth and Cody Brockman chipped in 14 points each for the Patriots.

The Irish matched Liberty Christian on the boards, with each team pulling down 33 misses.

DeSales, however, turned the ball over 29 times to eight bobbles for the Patriots.

"We played them even of the boards," Irish coach Mike Giusti said. "And we worked hard on defense. We’ve made progress since they scored 81 points on us the first time we played.

"The turnovers hurt," he said. "They pressed us and we didn’t handle it well. We played pretty good defense, and if we could have executed a little better on offense we would have been in the game longer."

DeSales played without injured starters Pat Richard and Lucas Fassari, and the ill Nick Wales.
