PENDLETON -- Umatilla County forestland owners can learn how a new project may affect their fire patrol assessments at a hearing here Monday.
Department of Forestry officials will discuss and take testimony on the Umatilla County Forestland Classification project, which is nearing completion. The meeting will be at 1:30 PM in the media room at the Public Safety Building, 4700 N.W. Pioneer Place.
The project is intended to update how properties in the Northeast Oregon Forest Protection District are classified as timber or grazing lands. Owners of classified lands in the district pay an assessment to cover the cost of wildfire protection.
Written and verbal comments on the draft results and the process used by the forestland classification committee will be taken at the hearing. Information is available at (541) 276-3491.
