PASCO — Dustin Moore drove coast-to-coast for a layin and a 57-55 Walla Walla Community College lead that survived a last-second Columbia Basin College field-goal attempt.

As a result, the Warriors escaped with the 57-55 NWAACC East Regional men’s basketball victory here Wednesday night.

Walla Walla improved to 5-3 in the East and 13-5 overall with the victory.

The loss leaves CBC with a 4-4 record in the East and a 12-7 record overall.

After leading by 10 points at halftime, Walla Walla had to battle back from an eight-point deficit with four minutes to play.

"Moore came in and saved the day for us," WWCC coach Jeff Reinland said. "He scored seven points in the last four minutes, and he went coast-to-coast for the winning basket.

"Columbia Basin got off a shot, but it rimmed out at the buzzer," he added.

"We got behind by eight points, and we went to a match-up zone, and they just scored one basket in the last four minutes," Reinland said.

Jason Smith led WWCC with 13 points, and Emery Henning scored 10 points.

The Warriors’ Ryan Andrews led all rebounders with 10 boards.

Columbia Basin’s Jordan Poyner scored a game-high 15 points. Nate Pelton and Drew Church scored 15 and 13 points, respectively.

"It was a very tough game," Reinland said. "It was pretty ugly because neither team could score very well.

"It was an ice-cold night," he continued. "Together the teams were 12-for-52 with 3-pointers. And they clogged up the middle, and we had a lot of turnovers.

"Both teams played good defense, but neither one shot very well," Reinland said.

Walla Walla travels to Treasure Valley on Saturday, with a 7 p.m. (Pacific Time) start.
