PASCO — Kati Isham and Nancy Johnson combined to score 42 points and grab 14 rebounds in Walla Walla Community College’s 63-57 NWAACC East Regional women’s basketball victory over Columbia Basin here on Wednesday.

"This is the first time we’ve won at CBC in seven years," WWCC coach Bobbi Hazeltine said. "We led by 11 in the first half and by seven (33-26) at the half.

"Then, with 6:29 left to play, they led by four points (53-49)," she said. "And we held them to four points the rest of the way.

"I think these sophomores just said that they were not going to lose," she added.

In the final six minutes, WWCC outscored CBC 14-4 for the 63-57 margin.

The victory gives WWCC a 7-1 record in the East and an 18-1 record on the season.

The loss drops the Hawks to 4-4 in the East and 12-17 overall.

Isham led all scorers with 22 points, and Johnson scored 20.

Isham and Johnson tied for game-high honors with seven rebounds each.

Kayla Hutcheson pulled down six rebounds to help the Warriors to a 31-26 advantage on the boards.

Brianna Smith and Jorie Freeman led the Hawks with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Caitlin Dill had a team-high six rebounds.

The game featured two lead changes and four ties.

"Our sophomores, Kati and Nancy, hit some big shots down the stretch," Hazeltine said. "And Layne Tucker hit a big shot to put us ahead, and then they had to foul.

"They are well coached, and they were ready for us," she said. "It was probably a good game for the fans, but it was not real good on my heart.

"No matter how good our teams have been — and we’ve had some very good ones — we haven’t been able to win over there in the last six years," Hazeltine continued. "But these sophmores came out with the win. It doesn’t make any difference how close it is, it’s a good win. And it’s good to get this monkey off of our backs."

The Warriors return to action at Treasure Valley on Saturday.
