Man attacked after interrupting a vehicle prowl

WALLA WALLA - A Walla Walla man was injured earlier this week when he was attacked after interrupting a vehicle prowl, authorities said.

The assault occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday behind JoAnn Fabric and Craft, 481 N. Wilbur Ave., according to the Walla Walla Police Department.

Officer Tim Bennett said a commercial truck driver was in his vehicle as the prowl occurred. The man, Jonathan Dickson, was in the cab of the truck waiting for the shop to open in the morning, when he noticed noise coming from the back trailer, Bennett said.

Dickson went outside to inspect, and was attacked by the two suspects. One of the suspects struck Dickson with a decorative lantern taken from inside the trailer, Bennett said.

Police took Dickson to a local hospital to get treatment for facial lacerations.

The two suspects, described as teen boys, got away. But they left behind evidence that may help police with the investigation.

During the confrontation, one of the teens lost both of his shoes, described as size 11 black high-top Converse sneakers. Dickson was also able to grab and rip part of a suspect's black hooded sweat shirt, Bennett said.

A hammer was also left at the scene that is believed to have been brought by the suspects. Bennett said the teens may also be responsible for a vehicle prowl reported earlier in the evening in the Blue Mountain Casino parking lot, which is adjacent to JoAnn's.

The Police Department's gang detectives are handling the investigation, and are seeking the public's help in identifying the suspects. Anyone with information can reach the department at 527-4434 or the non-emergency dispatch at 527-1960.
