Panthers use big second half to pull away from Pirate girls, 71-50

POMEROY - Shelby Barnes scored a game-high 24 points as Southeast B District North Division-leading Asotin pulled away in the second half to post a 71-50 victory over Pomeroy in girls high school basketball action here Friday night.

The Pirates took records of 2-3 in the division, 3-6 in district and 7-10 overall into a Saturday home game against Dayton.

Zara Reynolds added 16 points and Cheyanne Nelson chipped in with 11 for the Panthers, who led just 33-30 at halftime.

Asotin drilled eight 3-point shots in the game.

"We talked all week about getting out on their shooters," Pomeroy coach Nettie Severs said. "We didn't come out of the locker room (after halftime)."

Karlie Martin had 21 points to lead Pomeroy. HayLee Koller scored 17 for the Pirates.

"HayLee and Karlie came to play," Severs said. "They played all four quarters. They never gave up.

"Sadie (Slaybaugh) got into foul trouble and sat out most of the second quarter," Severs said. "In the third quarter, she got another foul right away. She sat out the rest of the third and half of the fourth quarter."
