POMEROY - The Pomeroy Pirate girls put the finishing touches on a 56-51 overtime victory over rival Dayton with just four players on the court here Saturday in a Southeast B cross-divisional girls basketball game.

The Bucs had to rally from a two-point deficit with 19 seconds to play in regulation to send it to overtime. Kindsey Bott was fouled with 11 seconds left and buried both free throws to bring the score even at 47 apiece.

Pomeroy had a chance to win it in regulation, when Dayton was called for over-and-back with four seconds left, but HayLee Koller's 12-foot jumper from the wing wouldn't go in at the buzzer and the two teams headed to OT.

Pomeroy jetted to a quick eight-point lead in the first two minutes of overtime.

Dayton closed the margin to five with 28 seconds remaining when Hailey Hyer became the third Pirate to foul out of the ball game, and Pomeroy finished the game with just four players.

Dayton made one of the two resulting foul shots, then fouled Karlie Martin on the in-bounds. Martin sank one of her two, and Dayton was unable to score on two tries in the last 21 seconds.

"We started out strong, then the second quarter we kind of quit scoring for awhile," Pomeroy coach Nettie Severs said. "We started fouling them a lot. Dayton shot 28 free throws in the second quarter and made most of them."

On the night, Dayton shot 43 free throws, making 23.

Dayton was led in scoring by Nicole Lockard's 15 points.

Pomeroy got a 22-point night from HayLee Koller and a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double from Melissa Bartlow.

Pomeroy boosts its record to 8-10 overall and 2-3 in the division. Regardless of what happens in Friday's season finale at Tekoa-Oakesdale, Pomeroy will finish third in the Northern Division, setting up a likely first round district playoff game at DeSales on Feb. 17.
