TEKOA - DeSales could not overcome a slow start Saturday after a long bus ride to Tekoa, and the result was a 55-46 loss to the Nighthawks in boys Southeast B basketball cross-divisional play.

"The second half was ours. The first half was theirs," DeSales coach Mike Giusti said. "We were up 4-2 early, then they outscored us 15-2 to end the first quarter. We got the lead down to four late in the fourth, but we had to foul and they made their free throws down the stretch."

Pat Richard led the Irish with 24 points.

Drake Hinkins and Brandon Hovde took charge for Tekoa-Oakesdale tallying 17 and 14 points, respectively.

The loss drops DeSales to 3-15 on the season.

The Irish have two games remaining on the season. DeSales hosts Walla Walla Valley Academy on Tuesday, then travels to Dayton Friday.

The winner of the game against Dayton takes the fourth seed from the South Division, while the loser has to travel to the North Division's No. 4 team for a district play-in game.
