Walla Walla Symphony, Eugene Ballet Company to hold 'Sleeping Beauty' tryouts


The Walla Walla Symphony and The Eugene Ballet Company will hold auditions for student dancers for "Sleeping Beauty" at noon Feb. 20 at The Dance Center, 129 E. Alder, Suite B. The registration fee is $5.

Parts for the show include: Fairy Pages, female only, ages 8 to 10, minimal ballet training required, good posture important; Court Ladies, ages 16 and up, no dance training required, good posture important; Carabosse Creatures, girls and boys ages 14 and up, strong training in ballet or jazz; Garland Waltz Dancers, ages 13 and up, females only, advanced ballet training required; "Queen," no dancing, walk with grace and authority, must be size 2 to 4.

Audition times are as follows: Fairy Pages, noon-12:45 p.m.; Court Ladies, 12:45-1:30 p.m.; Carabosse Creatures, 1:30-3 p.m.; Garland Waltz Dancers, 3-4:30 p.m.

Boys may audition for Carabosse Creatures, however theSClBremaining roles are reserved for females. Students should arrive at least 20 minutes prior to audition time to fill out registration forms. Girls should wear class uniform, or a solid colored leotard, pink tights and pink ballet shoes, and hair should be secured in a bun. Boys should wear white T-shirts, black tights and black ballet shoes. Students auditioning for Fairy Pages and Court Ladies will need ballet slippers. Those auditioning for Carabosse Creatures will need either jazz shoes or ballet slippers. Ladies auditioning for Garland Waltz need to be prepared for pointe work.

Students must be available for all rehearsals and performances. Students are only excused for medical illness or emergency. All rehearsals will be on Saturdays unless otherwise noted. Detailed rehearsal schedules will be sent with acceptance information.

"Sleeping Beauty" will be performed on March 27 and 28 in Cordiner Hall.
