PENDLETON -- It's Valentine's Day weekend, and you might as well get your heart pumping, say the folks at Hamley's Slickfork Saloon.
The band will play at 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday in the restaurant at 30 N.E. Court St.
Take a full dose of Americana, add some blues, a bit of reggae, a touch of punk and a shot of country and you end up with The Wasteland Kings.
The band's straightforward, no gimmicks, rock-solid approach is showcased with lyrics, vocals and guitar work that makes listeners into believers, Jan MacGregor of Hamley's said. The six-member group has been together for five years in its present version, noted bass player Roger Barnes. The Wasteland Kings plays around the Northwest, offering audiences both original music and a unique perspective on song covers, he said. "We're not like most bands. People are surprised when they see us -- they hear a lot of songs they don't expect to hear."
Performances usually make for a high-energy night, he added.
There is a $4 cover charge at the door; reservations are not required. Doors open at 8:15 p.m., and a concert menu will be offered, along with a full bar. For details call 541-278-1100.
