CONNELL - After leading at halftime, Columbia-Burbank suffered its first South Central Conference East loss, 56-47, to Connell here Thursday.

The Coyotes, 11-1 in the East and 18-2 on the season, move into the first round of the district tournament at home against Mabton on Thursday.

The win also gives Connell an 11-1 record in the East and a share of the regular-season division title.

C-B's Tiffany Idler led all scorers with 20 points, and she handed out four assists Sarah McGary led the Eagles with 12 points.

The Coyotes led 10-9 after the first period and 23-21 at halftime.

The Eagles roared back in the third quarter, 18-13, to take the lead for good.

"We knew it would be a tough game before we stepped on the court and sure enough it was," Coyote coach John Muchlinski said. "We had a lull at the beginning of the third quarter after being up by two at the half.

"They were up by as many as 10 in the fourth," he said. "We got it as close as six, but couldn't close the gap.

"Turning this into a positive, we need to realize we are co-league champs and have the No. 1 position going into districts," Muchlinski said. "We can use this as a stepping stone to get us fired up again and get our focus back."
