DAYTON -- Columbia County Fire District 3 Deputy Chief Kris Darby leaves Sunday morning to spend 10 days in Haiti to help provide emergency medical care for people affected by the Jan. 12 earthquake.
Darby's expenses are being covered in part by the Dayton Volunteer Firefighters Association, which plans to cover his airfare and other minor expenses.
Initial expenses for his trip including airfares, passport fees, clothing items and other essentials are being paid out of his own pocket.
A going-away get together for Darby will be held at the Fire Station in Dayton Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m.
Donations to cover Darby's expenses can be made through the Dayton Volunteer Firefighters Association by contacting association board members Jeromy Phinney, Cory Bell, Denise Bell or Erin Darby or by calling 386-2059.
