Port of Columbia commissioners are Lawrence Turner, Gene Warren and Dale McKinley. With all Warren absent Wednesday commissioners:

  • BIDS: Learned sealed bids on the surplus property at 120 S. First St. are due Feb. 26.

  • OFFICERS: Appointed Gene Warren as secretary of the board.

  • MEETING: Adopted resolution setting meeting times at 10 a.m. November through March, and 7:30 p.m. April through October. Unanimous.

  • BLUE MOUNTAIN STATION: Discussed information meeting held Feb 4. It was well attended. Reviewed comments submitted during the meeting. The need for large public meeting space was the most frequent comment. Attendees preferred traditional building design.

  • INDUSTRIAL PARK: Learned an occupancy permit has been received for Industrial Building 6, and Columbia County Transportation has moved into the building.

  • RAILROAD: Discussed strategy for preparation of right of way use documents. Recently there have been several inquiries regarding use of railroad right of way for utilities in urban areas. The Port will hold a series of workshops over the next several months to help design a good policy on addressing urban right of way permits. The new policy will impact the entire railroad right of way all the way to Walla Walla.

  • LYONS FERRY: Discussed matters related to Lyons Ferry Park and Marina, including pump out grant submitted to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for approval. Learned the kitchen is being upgraded, as well as restrooms. The concessionaire has also installed coded locking devices on the moorage area.

  • PARK: Approved an agreement with Port of Kahlotus for $15,000 to help fund operation and maintenance of Lyons Ferry Park in 2010. Unanimous.

  • ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: Hear reports on Dayton Development Task Force and Southeast Washington Economic Development Association.

  • TASK FORCE: main street project task kforce working on. West Main Strategic planning session planned for March.
