IONE - Second place in the Big Sky East girls basketball conference was at stake here Friday night as Helix and Ione squared off.

Helix got a balanced scoring attack and outscored Ione in each quarter to claim sole possession of second with a 48-37 victory.

Addie Terjeson led the way for the Grizzlies with a team-high 13 points. Meghan Schroeder chipped in 12, Kylee Rogers added nine, and Chyanne Hack and Claire Ely each chipped in seven.

"We had good, balanced scoring," Grizzlies coach Dean Fouquette said. "That's what we want to do."

Beth Morter led the Cardinals with 13 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Helix balance.

Schroeder grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and was credited with assists down the stretch to help the Grizzlies overcome an early season loss to the Cardinals, and help Helix run its Big Sky winning streak to 10 games.

"Meghan had a great game," Fouquette said. "She passed the ball well and had some big assists at the end. She's our toughest player and we needed her toughness tonight."

The win improves the Grizzlies to 10-3 in conference. Helix hosted Sherman County Saturday in the regular-season finale.

The victory, plus holding the tie-breaker, assures the Grizzlies of no worse than the second seed to the district tournament that begins Thursday in Umatilla.
