Walla Walla Community College women's basketball team to raise cancer awareness

WALLA WALLA -- The Walla Walla Community College women's basketball team will be seeing pink this week.

On Wednesday, the WWCC Warriors play Spokane Community College at 6 p.m. as both teams color outside the lines in a game designed to raise breast cancer awareness.

"We wanted to really promote this. The team will be wearing new pink uniforms, the refs will have pink whistles and they're passing out pink and white hats at the door, said WWCC coach Bobbi Hazeltine.

Money raised through raffle items will stay local at the Breast Cancer Community Foundation, put in a fund to help meet the extra needs of breast cancer patients and their families, she said.

Area merchants have responded to the "sink while pink" plan with gift baskets and certificates for merchandise and food. Raffle items will include apparel, custom handbags, a one-time photography sitting, ingredients for an Italian dinner and more. Raffle participants can put tickets in for the items they are interested in and need not be present to win.

Admission to the game is $5 for adults, $3 for students.
