TRI-CITIES -- The Mid-Columbia Mastersingers will present a guest artist residency with Grammy Award-winning composer Libby Larsen.

"Missa Gaia: Mass for the Earth," a work for chorus and chamber orchestra, will be presented 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Chief Joseph Middle School Auditorium in Richland and 3 p.m. Sunday at Chiawana High School Auditorium in Pasco. Pre-concert lectures given by Larsen will begin 30 minutes before each concert. The Mastersingers will be joined by Mary Dann's Treble Choir from Chief Joseph Middle School and Debi Eng's Chamber Choir from Chiawana High School on these concerts.

A marathon runner, Larsen will host a 1-mile fun run and 5-mile race titled "Run with the Composer: Sound in Mind, Sound in Body" 10 a.m. Saturday at Hanford High School.

In addition, the residency will feature workshops with local music students, talks at local Kiwanis and Rotary meetings, a forum at Columbia Basin College, pre-concert lectures, post-concert Q&A sessions, public receptions, radio interviews, and open rehearsals with the Mastersingers.

Founded in 1986, Mid-Columbia Mastersingers (formerly Consort Columbia) is a select, 40-member ensemble of experienced singers who perform primarily in eastern Washington and Oregon.
