WALLA WALLA -- Children starting kindergarten in the fall can enroll in their neighborhood school March 15-26.
Walla Walla Public Schools is coordinating its yearly enrollment period from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. on March 15, and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. the remaining days.
Parents may register students at their area attendance elementary school during that period. Registration forms can also be picked up beginning March 8 at neighborhood schools, but won't be accepted until March 15.
New district boundaries, which took effect this school year, determine what school children attend based on where they live. The maps are available for downloading online at wwps.org, in the A to Z section, under Boundary Map. Maps are also available at the district's administrative office, 364 S. Park St.
Families wishing to enroll children in a school other than their corresponding school can pick up open-enrollment applications starting March 8 from the school they wish to attend. The applications would then be submitted to the desired school.
Open-enrollment requests are granted based on space availability. The board policy on open enrollment, No. 3130, outlines the process and can be viewed online or at the district office. More information on kindergarten enrollment is available by contacting individual schools.
